The second annual highly acclaimed "Newschoolers Awards" will honor the best of the best of this year's crop of freeski films.

With 6 different awards spread out amongst pro and am categories, and all the top athletes and filmmakers in attendance, this is an event you won't want to miss.

Presented by Newschoolers.com and Skyy Vodka, the NS awards will bring more than a 1,000 people to close out the festival, and if they're anything like last year, expect to witness more crazy antics on stage, along with some new twists.

The awards will be hosted by the illustrious John Symms and the man, the myth, the legend, Philou Poirier. After the awards are done, Montreal's own DJ Ghyslain Poirier will kick off the party with his dirty blend of abstract reggae and hip-hop that will surely get the place bumping.

Judges

Mike Berard
Berard is the managing editor of the extremely popular Canadian ski magazine SBC Skier. Berard's unique brand of humor, which shines through in his writing, makes him as fun of a guy as you could hope to be around and is in turn one of the most liked and respected individuals in the ski industry. When Berard isn't zig-zagging across the globe covering everything from major competitions to middle-of-nowhere backcountry adventures, he can usually be found in Whistler, with skis on his feet and a smile on his face.

Phil Belanger
Belanger, one of the pioneers of freeskiing, was one of the earliest skiers to shape the sport and undoubtedly the first true halfpipe skier of our time. Along with his counterparts Phil Larose and Phil Dion, who were known as the 3 Phils, Phil traveled the world skiing in competitions, film and photo shoots before eventually branching off into filmmaking with Plehouse Films. In addition to these impressive accolades, Phil is also the owner and operator of D-Structure, one of the most loved and supported freeski shops in the world.

Fred Caron
Caron, a former skateboard and punk rock artist, is presently in charge of recreating and directing Musique Plus' imagery and identification. After cutting his teeth illustrating skateboards and designing band posters, Caron caught the eye of several producers and directors who encouraged him to make the leap to traditional animation, art direction and ultimately, directing. With his impressive and spirited background, Caron will bring a much-welcomed director's perspective to this year's IF3 jury.

Recently signed to Ninja Tune, Montreal's Ghislain Poirier is obsessed with big, dirty beats, an affliction that causes him create some of the most out of control ragga style riddims, and deconstructed abstract hip-hop to date.

In the past Poirier has collaborated with MC's and DJ's from across the globe, working with NYC's resident Large cats Beans (Warp) and dj/rupture (Tigerbeat6), as well as Parisian heavy weights TTC (Big Dada) and London's Lotek Hi-Fi (Big Dada) amongst others.

Poirier has become renowned globally for his bass slammin remixes that continue to further solidify his title as "king of the bounce". He has remixed tracks for UK grime/hip hop sensation Lady Sovereign (Def Jam), The Editors, Champion, Bassnectar, Pierre Lapointe all to much critical acclaim and garnering him attention from publications such as pitchforkmedia.com , The Wire and XLR8R Magazine...
